Pre-K School Day (School Year)
The preschool follows The Creative Curriculum, which focuses on exploration and discovery learning through large and small group instruction, socialization, formative assessments, and correlating lessons. This allows us to implement language and literacy, mathematics, social studies, imaginative play and physical activity. Units and structured lessons are developmentally appropriate and include daily circle time where the students are taught phonological awareness, problem solving skills, motor skills, and much more! The 2022-2023 school year runs September to June, 8:30am-1:30pm Monday through Friday (closed on major holidays).
This program offers:
- Breakfast & Lunch
- Indoor/Outdoor Play Areas
- Keystone STARS Level 4 Certification
- 10:1 Maximum teacher/student ratio
- Raising a Reader Literacy Program
- Community Partnerships
Before and After School Care (School Year)
We offer part-time care for children that attend our preschool programs or other classrooms within the Steel Rivers COG Building. This allows parents to drop their children off as early as 6:30am and pick them up as late as 6pm. Our staff will walk the child to their other classroom in the morning and pick them up when their class is dismissed. We provide emergency daytime care in the event of a last-minute Head Start classroom closure.
This program offers:
- Snack
- Kindergarten Readiness
- Free Play
- Small Group Instruction
- Indoor/Outdoor Play Areas
- Keystone STARS Level 4 Certification
- 10:1 Maximum teacher/student ratio
- Community Partnerships

*We know that timing can be tricky, especially when kids are involved! That’s why we provide a free hour of flexibility for the Pre-K School Day. For students who are not enrolled in our Before & After School Care, the morning dropoff window is from 8-8:30am and the pickup window is from 1:30-2pm. If you are not able to reliably arrive/pickup within the provided time frames, enroll in our Before & After School programs.
**We recommend that families who qualify for Head Start take advantage of the extra resources available through that program. If you feel that our Pre-K Counts classroom is a better fit for your student, you are still welcome to apply!
Please note that 2022-2023 rates are in effect until June 2023. These rates are highly subsidized thanks to funding from private donors, the Jefferson Regional Foundation, and PA Pre-K Counts funding. Typical annual preschool rates are $180/week for part-time care and $220 for full-time care (defined as more than 5 daily hours).
